About Kedarnath Temple
The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas — sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. According to legend, the Pandavas sought Shiva's forgiveness after the Kurukshetra war; Shiva eluded them and finally appeared as a bull, leaving his hump at Kedarnath. The present stone structure dates to the 8th century (attributed to Adi Shankaracharya); it survived the 2013 floods behind its ridge position.
