About Badrinath Temple
Adi Shankaracharya is credited with reviving the shrine in the 8th century. The black stone (shaligram) idol of Badrinarayan sits in the garbhagriha under a gold gilt roof. The temple closes in winter when the idol is moved to Narsingh Temple at Joshimath — an annual ritual drawing thousands.
